Legislator Introduces Outrageous Homosexual Bill - Oh noez!
And here’s what’s so “outrageous”:

State Senator Sheila Kuehl has introduced legislation that will ban textbooks and teachers from any instruction that “reflects adversely” upon homosexuality, transgenders, bisexuals or those with perceived gender issues.

The article uses fancy terms like “reverse discrimination,” to distract from the point, which is that this kind of legislation is meant to prevent blatant bigotry and religious biases from promoting hate and intolerance through public schools.

Really, how do you get it across to these people that it is NOT okay to push personal beliefs and biases through public institutions?

I don’t have any time to comment, but Feministe’s article on the sisterhood of the white, the pretty, and the thin is definitely a worthwhile read. I’ve never liked the idea of “going Greek” to begin with, but the thought of “reorganizing” a sorority into a real-life Barbie dollhouse at the expense of the not-so-pretty girls is just repulsive.

Beware of impaired judgment.

Mr Kerkhof’s adventure began when he’d had a few drinks, and decided to take a stroll on the Louth Bay jetty.

He was chatting to a couple of fishermen who were after a catch of squid when a 1.3 metre bronze whaler shark began chasing their squid lures.

With the shark keeping the squid away, and no means of removing the problem, Mr Kerkhof told ABC News that he decided he could help.

“I said to them, we’ll just see if we can lure it into the shallows a bit and I’ll jump in and grab him”, he said.

Mr Kerkhof explained how he stripped off his clothing, climbed down a ladder on the jetty and began to stalk the shark into shallow water, slowly sneaking up behind it.

This is a bronze whaler shark:

One would think this would have turned out badly for Mr. Kerkhof. However, he actually managed to sneak up on the shark (how you “sneak up” on an aquatic predator, I’ll never know), catch it with his bare hands, climb up the ladder with shark in tow, and throw it onto the jetty. All while buck-naked and drunk on vodka.

“When I sobered up I thought about it and I said you know ‘I’m a bit of an idiot doing it’… it’s amazing what vodka does…”

I first saw this on Feministe, but evidently Feministing posted it as well. The doll experiment really broke my heart.

A Tennessee legislator, Stacey Campfield (go on, try to guess his party affiliation), is pushing a bill to require death certificates for aborted fetuses. The reason?

To “see how many lives are being ended out there by abortions.”

O rly? The Office of Vital Records already keeps public abortion records. The difference between those records and the proposed death certificates is telling - fetal death certificates would reveal the identities of the women who undergo abortions.

And of course, only aborted fetuses count. Does it really matter that 10-25% of clinically-recognized pregnancies end in miscarriage? Maybe, but see, you can’t blame sluts and feminists for those.

Darwin and the FSM faithful are once again facing off with the almighty being in the fight for Kansas schools. I, for one, am rooting for “He who created all that we see and all that we feel” - the Flying Spaghetti Monster, of course.

Today whilst browsing the net, I was unfortunate enough to come across this blog. Oddly reminiscent of Savetoby.com.

I realize that there are those who will disagree with me, but I find this downright disgusting. This woman took a controversial personal choice and dangled it over the blogosphere in a pathetic attempt for personal monetary gain.

She bragged about having indulged in alcohol and drugs throughout her pregnancy, making it clear that she thought her fetus was probably becoming “drug-addicted, deformed, retarded… Abort the mutant or raise it in the community? You decide!” Just about every post she made was an attempt to appeal to emotionally-driven anti-choicers so they would feel pity for the fetus.

This wasn’t for reproductive rights. It was for money.

I’m pro-choice. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having an abortion, just like I don’t think there’s anything wrong with eating a humanely-raised rabbit like Toby. I do think there is something wrong with fucking with emotionally unstable people to part them from their money. I can only hope this woman didn’t become too much of a pro-choice figurehead in the minds of those who read her blog - when they consider reproductive rights, they won’t see a woman weighing her options and choosing what’s best for her personal situation, they’ll see someone looking for the best way to turn their private affairs into big money by playing on the fears and misinformed beliefs of others.

And for the record, I could care less whether or not this particular website was a hoax. The impact could be just as devastating regardless.

Over the last three years, Pro-life Across America has made a lot of these billboards with babies on them - 28 of them, to be exact. But billboards with embryos on them? Not one. Apparently it’s much easier to market the falsehood that embryos are babies when you show a lot of babies and absolutely no embryos. I thought I’d help the pro-lifers out and do my part to even the score:

Pro-life Disclaimer: No embryos were used to save the lives of the terminally ill in the making of this billboard.

Most of us expected some upset when Amanda of Pandagon was hired by the Edwards campaign, but man, the shit sure did hit the fan.

Amanda’s a controversial blogger. She’s strongly opinionated. Her arguments provoke thought, but they’re not tailored to capture all sides of an issue: she’s a pro-choice vegetarian liberal (among many, many other things), and she’s never tried to be anything to the contrary in order to appeal to another demographic. In short, she’s an actual human being - no rough edges softened, no whites bleached, no sugar-dusting. She swears. She gets pissed. She names names.

And she’s intelligent, whether you agree with her or not. She brings new perspectives to the table. She brings up issues and new developments that otherwise tend to fall through the cracks. I think she’ll be an asset to the Edwards’ campaign, and I look forward to reading her work.

So what’s the problem? The political world is a whitewashed mudbath. It’s unfortunate, but I have to wonder if the blogosphere will be wise enough to look past Amanda’s naughty language and satirical name-calling in her personal blog and see her value as an intelligent, well-informed professional.
